Welcome to Blogging

Starting a blog

If you click on the play icon below you will be able to view the instructions on how to create your own blog.

A few ideas:
  • A forum for class discussions. This also allows students to view and learn from each others' ideas.
  • An area for students to submit work.
  • Students themselves can create blogs as a portfolio of their work and reserach.
  • A central location to add links to your recommended websites.
  • Show videos from youtube that support learning.

Adding pictures and changing text

The tool bar above is pretty self explanatory. You can change the size and colour of text, format as you do in word and spell check before you click on publish.

To add a picture:
  • Click on the photo icon.
  • Click on browse.
  • In the "look in" box, select where the picture is you want to add.
  • Choose where you want it to go.
  • Click upload.
If you want to add a picture from somewhere else on the web you will need to find the picture, right click and save as. You have now saved the picture and can upload it as described above.

Why not leave a comment here? Click on where it says comments below. I have turned moderation off so these comments will go staright onto the blog WITHOUT me looking at them first. Therefore, no rude comments about my hair please!

ADDING A VIDEO FROM YOUTUBE

If you are used to using youtube you will know there are lots of good clips that can be used educationally. You will also be aware that there are lots of illegal and dodgy videos on, at least this way you get to choose what students can see.

It is easiest to work in two windows/ To do this, minimise this page, click on internet explorer again and you will now have two internet pages running at once.

In internet explorer address bar type in www.youtube.com

Once there you can search for a video clip.

To start off though, why not try this one? Right click on this hyperlink below and select "open in a new window."

  • When watching the clip you will see in the right hand corner a sign that says "embed
  • Highlight the text in the box, right click and select copy.
  • Maximise your blog again.
  • In your new post you will need to select "edit Html" on the tab where you write your post.
  • Now paste the text from youtube.
  • If you click back on "compose" you will be able to add more content to your post as normal.
  • Whenyou view your blog you should have the video embeded into your blog.
